Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo Da Vinci, born in Florence in 1452, was an important philosopher, astronomer, architect, engineer, mathematician, musician, sculptor, geologist, writer and painter of the period. He is still known as one of the greatest artists and geniuses of the world with his researches and inventions in various fields, not only with his artistic vision, but also with his art of the Renaissance. Due to his wide range of interests, Da Vinci was unable to finish all his works and given this reason, Da Vinci’s final words were, ‘I have offended mankind because my work didn’t reach the quality it should have.’

Mona Lisa, the most famous artwork of all time, is believed to have begun in Florence in 1503 and finish in France four years later. The most well-known of the many reasons that makes this painting mysterious is the indecipherable smile of Mona Lisa, who does not clearly show any emotion or expression on her face. Stumato is a technique that was applied by Da Vinci, who gave this magical appearance to Mona Lisa who seems to reflect a slightly different feeling with her eyes, twisted lips and extraordinary expression.
